Five Summer Health Risks you Can Prevent
Summer is a time when people relax and go on vacation, the weather is warm, and the kids are out of school. It is also the time of year when people head outdoors. The health risks of summer are different than the health risks of winter. Here are five summer health risks that you can prevent.
Too Much Sun
Too much sun can lead to a few problems. For one, spending too much time in the sun can lead to sunburn. Sunburn can be painful, but the biggest danger with sunburn is that it can lead to skin cancer. Avoiding direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, using sunscreen, covering up, and wearing a hat can help prevent sunburn, and reduce your risk of skin cancer as well. Too much sun can also affect your eyes: choose sunglasses that block out ultraviolet light to protect them.
Most people are chronically dehydrated. Although people don’t drink enough water during the winter months, during the summer, dehydration can be worse. When you’re dehydrated, you produce added sweat, and sweat contains water. Therefore when you’re dehydrated, you’re also constipated. To prevent dehydration, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and be sure to avoid drinks that claim to ” modes of hydration.”
Although chemicals can be present in almost everything we use to live, they are almost always used in products that are intentionally harmful. Over-the-counter drugs, cleaning products, paints, pesticides, and solvents are all potential dangerous chemicals. Be aware of the smells associated with these products and immediately throw them out.
Poor Hand Avoidance
People with weak hand muscles or medical conditions that inhibit blood circulation are far more vulnerable to accidents. If you have a weakened hand, you are more likely to “slip” and “stumble” when it comes to carrying out dangerous activities. Remember that with weakened hands you are also more likely to “falls” because you cannot use your stronger hand to hold something. Always be sure to use the strongest solution that you can find and never attempt to open an urgent situation without it.
Although the summer is a time when you can get outdoors and “be outdoors,” it is also a time when you are more likely to get an injury if you are synthetics. This may be in part due to the fact that you are likely to be working out with high intensity, and low repetition. Always be sure you are stretching before a workout, and be sure to bring a stronger and more stable material than you would be using during your workout.
Strive for Balance
When you are in the process of doing your workouts, keep an eye on your feet to be sure that you are not placing all of your weight on the heels. This can put too much stress on the ankle, knee, and hip joints. Be sure you are placing enough weight on your feet to ensure that your entire body is supported, and be sure to place the stability ball in front of your upper body as part of your workout routine.
Use a Rest Time
Many of us are so caught up in our work that we end up without a chance to rest. This can take a great deal of stress off of your body, and it is important to ensure that you give yourself adequate rest and recovery in order to be sure that you are able to continue to continue to push yourself.
